Photography Day
* Thursday 29th January • Limited to 12 Spaces *
*** Open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday during the Summer Holidays ***
Join us for an exclusive Photography Day at Get to Know Animals CIC – a rare chance to explore our 12,000 sq ft indoor tropical sanctuary with just a handful of fellow photographers.
Date: Thursday 29th January 2026
Time: 10:30am – 2:30pm
Price: £85 per person
Spaces: Only 12 exclusive places available
For this special event, the sanctuary will be closed to the general public, giving you the freedom to slow down, explore and compose your shots without crowds or interruptions. Because we’re fully indoors, you don’t have to worry about frozen fingers, fogged‑up lenses or gloomy winter skies – just warm, consistent, tropical conditions and beautiful, naturalistic habitats.
With over 100 species of rescued ex‑pets living in large, carefully designed enclosures, you’ll have endless opportunities to capture portraits, behaviour and tiny details that you simply won’t find in a typical zoo setting.
Our experienced Rangers will be on hand throughout the day to open enclosure doors where appropriate, helping you achieve clearer, reflection‑free images while always prioritising animal welfare and safety.
You’ll also enjoy an extra layer of depth and learning from our special guests:
- Ryan Parker – Conservationist
- Nathan Ofsthun – Ecologist / Ornithologist
- Maryna Kostiukevych – Professional Wildlife Photographer
Ryan and Nathan will be giving informal talks and insights about the different species, their natural habitats, behaviours and conservation stories, and will be available throughout the day to answer your questions. This means you’re not just taking beautiful images – you’re also getting to know the animals behind the lens and the issues they face in the wild and in captivity.
Maryna will be on hand to share practical tips and guidance on:
- Making the most of our indoor lighting and mixed habitats
- Camera settings for different species and movements
- Composing engaging wildlife images in an indoor environment
In addition to shooting in the enclosures, we’ll have a mini studio set up on the day. This gives you the chance to create clean, blank‑background portraits with a variety of our animals – perfect for building a portfolio, practising new techniques, or simply creating images you love.
Throughout the session you’ll enjoy:
- A relaxed, supportive atmosphere with a very small group
- Time to revisit animals and refine your shots
- Free tea, coffee and water to keep you going
This event is ideal for:
- Complete beginners who are just starting – or thinking about starting – photography as a hobby
- Hobbyists and enthusiasts who want something fun and different to shoot
- Students and early‑career photographers looking to build experience and confidence
- Experienced photographers who want controlled conditions, variety and expert input
Whether you shoot for practice, fun, social media, personal projects or professional work, you’ll leave with a memory card full of unique images and a deeper understanding of the animals you’ve spent the day with.
All animals at GTKA are rescued or rehomed ex‑pets, not wild‑caught, and their welfare is always our top priority. As with all our experiences, we’ll guide you on how to work around the animals calmly and respectfully so they remain comfortable and relaxed.
With only 12 exclusive spaces, places are strictly limited to keep the experience intimate and unhurried. Early booking is strongly recommended.
Book your Photography Day now and capture stunning images of our incredible residents in a warm, tropical sanctuary – while supporting a small, ethical, not‑for‑profit rescue.
